WHY I STARTED RUBYSCUITS
Growing up in New York City, I saw homeless dogs constantly — on the street, in shelters, and all over my social media feed, waiting for someone to actually do something instead of just scrolling past. I didn't want to just ask my parents to write a check on my behalf. I wanted to earn the money myself and give it directly, so it actually felt like I was making an impact.
That's really the reason Rubyscuits exists in the first place. I fly down to San Diego to volunteer with The Animal Pad multiple times a year, whenever I can make it work — but I dedicated my summer in 2023 to volunteering, and that's the trip that changed how I saw all of it.
After spending the summer of 2023 volunteering with The Animal Pad, I was able to see firsthand just how much time, care, and effort goes into every rescue. Being there helped me understand the work that happens behind the scenes and gave me an even deeper appreciation for the volunteers and foster families who do everything they can to give each dog a second chance. Since then, I have continued going back as often as I can to help with whatever work is needed. Every time I return, I learn something new and feel even more connected to their mission. The Animal Pad has become such a meaningful organization to me, and I am incredibly grateful that I can continue supporting their work both personally and through Rubyscuits. I cannot wait to keep helping and being part of their community for years to come.
WHO WE SUPPORT
The Animal Pad
The Animal Pad (TAP) is a San Diego-based, foster-powered 501(c)(3) dog rescue that has been saving dogs of all breeds and needs since 2010. TAP rescues dogs from dangerous situations in Southern California and from the streets of Mexico, providing each one with veterinary care, vaccinations, spaying or neutering, a microchip, and a loving foster home before carefully matching them with the right family. Their impact also extends beyond adoption through free clinics in Baja California, which spayed or neutered more than 2,300 animals in the past year alone. With over 10,000 dogs saved since its founding, TAP’s work is powered by approximately 350 volunteers, more than 100 active foster homes, and generous donor support. Every dog they bring to the States receives immediate veterinary care, thoughtful rehabilitation, and a loving foster home while they wait for their perfect forever family. Animal Care Centers of NYC
Founded in 1995, Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to end animal homelessness throughout New York City. As the city’s only open-admissions shelter organization, ACC welcomes animals regardless of their background or condition and cares for more than 15,000 homeless, lost, and neglected animals each year. New Yorkers visit ACC every day to reclaim lost pets, adopt new furry family members, and receive resources that help them keep their pets at home. ACC finds loving homes for cats, dogs, and rabbits through direct adoptions and partnerships with more than 200 dedicated New Hope animal placement organizations. Its field services team also responds to calls from the public, rescues animals in need, and helps keep communities safe across all five boroughs.
